Experience is the Best Teacher

When President Obama was initially running for office, my biggest critique of him was that he had not had enough experience in political office to run a country. That point was brought up again during a speech by Republican Governor McDonnell of Virgina. He says that a Republican Governor would be the best replacement for current president in 2012. The NY times provided a video of the speech thats available to watch below

Im not even following the Post but ill make sure I do that right away, maybe ill get some special recognition for being the 1,000,002nd follower.

Boom Goes the Dynamite

It was reported tonight that Osama Bin Laden had been killed. While this should have been a uniting and celebratory moment for Americans, it has actually had more of a polarizing effect. There are some people that believe that he had been dead a while and that US intelligence had just been keeping it from the American public. After evading US military personnel for three Presidential administrations, he was allegedly killed by the United States military in Pakistan and his body was in their custody. We’ll see if it was really him or one of his body double, keep and eye out as the story unfolds.

Is He Looking at the Man in the Mirror?

As reported earlier, President Obama is making his attack on the Oil Industry’s huge gains during the Country’s biggest economic hurt in a while, one of the platforms as he begins his re-election campaign. While he continues to criticize and demand some sort of regulation, there has been fingers pointing at the president as the cause of the continual price increase of oil. James Lankford of Oklahoma says the regulations on energy pushed by the Obama administration “knowingly raised energy prices by chocking off traditional American energy and smothering our economy in new energy regulations.” If this is true maybe the President can have more of an impact on reducing the prices that he thinks. I really dont care who is to blame I just want someone to fix it. With a 25 hour road trip to the West Coast approaching soon, im gonna need all the extra pennies I can get.

Party in the USA

Yesterday the White House held its Correspondent’s dinner and it was full of big names. The New York Times covered the event and there was enough star power to cancel out the country’s energy problems for at least 8 days.

Gotta Get that OI….

As the troubles continue in Syria there is still no sight of American intervention. The government has began firing on its protesting citizens and the unrest his steadily rising. Not only has the US decided not to take any military action as in Libya but it has yet to request for the administration to step down as in Egypt. Maybe because Syria does not have any resources that America is interested, but the White House did sanction 3 Syrian officials.

Dave Chappelle called it first. Skip to 2:24 in the video and make sure you have heaphones in if you are around children or in a professional environment. Some of the language is not the most appropriate.

Trumped

With the release of the birth certificate of the president and denouncement my known republicans is it safe to say that the steam for Donald Trump’s political/publicity run about out? Trump says he will make a final decision after the finale of his show airs on the 22nd of May, on whether he will run or not. Whether he decides to or not, he had definitely done a good job keeping his name in headlines and plugging his show. I may even turn on my TV or the last 3 minutes just to hear what he is going to say, though I am not for sure if that will do too much for his ratings.

Future Educators on the Future of Education

With all the recent cuts in different budgets, its hard to think about which one will probably have the biggest impact. In Texas, of all the cutbacks, education has the most amount of people I know worried. Whether it be parents that have children just starting school or art teachers whose programs aren’t seen as essential and are in fear of losing their jobs. Not only are teachers and parents nervous but so are a lot of college seniors, especially education majors.

A couple of friends of mine are about to graduate in a couple of weeks, one friend Gary is about to finish his undergrad and has a job lined up in a low income school in Austin. Rihana is about to finish grad school and has just come back from student teaching/coaching and is negotiation with a school for a coaching job as well as a big company that she has worked for for over 6 years. They both are in similar situations but have very different view on what entering the education field in Texas means for their future.

Gary has been recruited to work for a company called Advise Texas, that places job hopefuls in low income cities to advise students on making the right choices that get them to college. The school selection is totally undecided by the applicant but there is aid in paying student loans as long as one is with the company. Rihana has a job offer from the school she student taught at and wants to do it,but the recent cuts in school districts around the state has her nervous. The uncertainty is holding her back. Coaching and teaching or passions of hers, but the security in the other job she is being offered is making her think more so in term of finances that using what she went to school and has a passion for. Gary doesn’t seem to mind getting placed at a random school, he is happy that he has a job and one that is helping him pay back student loans and allows him to help students who are already at a disadvantage in life, possibly improve their standard of living.

Stories such as these are making and breaking future teachers in the state of Texas as well as in the rest of the United States.
